I've lived my entire adult life in rentals, and for most of my life I didn't plan on home ownership. Now that I'm planning on owning I'm a bit terrified, of getting in over my (financial) head, of getting stuck with a house that needs more to make it liveable than I can ever manage, of getting ripped off, of getting stuck in a neighborhood I realize too late is a nightmare. These are some of the resources I've turned to, or will be using to get from renting to owning without losing my mind.

Affordable Housing Partnership is a local organization that provides workshops on home buying and home ownership. I took a 3 session workshop there that ran through everything from getting credit ready to home inspections.
Realizing the American Dream is the workbook used at the workshops I attended. It's a great intro to making the decision to buy a home and getting through the process.
The Guide to Buying your First Home website has a lot of the same info that is in the workbook
