We went to the Spectrum to see Mamma Mia tonight after work. It was so silly but quite fun… after all a musical based on Abba songs can’t be anything but silly. I’ve been skimping a great deal on anything like movies and generally have been choosing more carefully but decided I wanted to see something completely foolish, not inclined to think. I wasn’t quite successful at not singing along… but the kiddo and I kept it relatively quiet. I was surprised there were a couple dozen others in the theater since it’s been there for a month already.

My landlord sent a lease renewal a couple weeks ago informing me we now have to inform them 60 days before the lease ends of our intention to renew or not renew. I’m not sure it’s even legal to require 60 days as opposed to 30, but that’s not the point. I don’t plan to renew my lease. I plan to find a house… a home to OWN. It has been my plan to take a month to month rental when my lease was up while I get a house.
I don’t want to be struggling with matching lease end dates with closing dates blah blah blah. I’m not sure I’ll get a mortgage. I’m not sure I’m interested in owning, but I am sick of landlords and rules and people minding my business. I also seek to invest what little I can into my city… and not join the the fleeing middle class to the outskirts of urban areas.
(Although at this point I’m sure some of those with their hour commutes are sick of the commutes and the gas prices)

My stomach is rebelling… against what I don’t know. The kiddo is still in agony with her busted tailbone and having her own troubles courtesy of the meds she’s been given. We are flopping around wasting the day.
Netflix has decided that the problem with the hold on my account is part of the same system problem they’ve had with getting movies out. Hmmm… couldn’t they tell me that to being with?

I got a new debit card at the end of last month after losing mine… I forgot to change the card number on netflix in time for billing so I went in and changed it when I got their “Houston we have a problem” email.
I don’t realize for a couple days that there is a problem.. I go online and see the old account hold.. I check “retry” card… there’s no indication there’s a problem, the money leaves my bank account.. the account page looks okay. My daughter calls me at work and tells me the instant movie whoosiewhatsit isn’t working. I check… no account hold… but when you try to watch a movie… boom…

With the car dead I’m back to always walking when I head down to Stewart’s to feed my caffeine and ice cream addiction.
The neighborhood we live in is not my idea of “home” it’s wannabe suburbia (without sidewalks half way down the block) It is a “nice” neighborhood. It’s safe, ridiculously quiet and the elementary school is one of the few in our city that does well. But compared to my street back home the dead quiet of the night here drives me insane. I miss 24 hour bodegas available by merely turning left at my building entrance. I miss 24 hour foot traffic on the street, a library around the corner and Puerto Rican, Greek, Chinese, Indian and French food available a few yards in any direction. I miss the chatter of kids with the accents of different nations all playing their gameboys in the courtyard.
